The following are the rules and conditions for participating in the 2024 GameXcellence Awards. By entering and participating, entrants accept these terms and conditions.

Eligibility

  • The Awards are open to all independent game developers, students and artists.
  • Entries may be submitted by either individuals or teams.
  • All participants must be 18 years of age or older, or have obtained consent from a parent or legal guardian and have the capacity to understand and agree to rules and regulations.
  • The eligible mediums are short animated films, prototype games and mini-games.
  • Multiple entries may be submitted by the same entrant.
  • For the special award-student category, entrants must be currently enrolled in accredited courses in Australia.
  • For the special award - international category, entrants must be residing outside Australia. This is the only category entrants outside Australia are eligible for.
  • Entries may not have been a finalist for any previous GameXcellence Awards, unless the entries have been substantially developed/changed since the last submission.
  • Entries must be in English localization or provide an option to switch to an English interface.
  • Acceptable platforms: Windows PC, Mac, Android, IOS and web game.
  • We cannot guarantee the submissions can be properly assessed if they require special hardware to access.
  • GameXcellence Awards reserves the right in its sole discretion to decide whether an entry is eligible to compete or not.

Submissions

  • All entries must be submitted via the online submission form link, and any additional supporting materials should be sent to gamexcellence@eia.edu.au
  • To compete for the Mini Game and Prototype Game categories, entries must be submitted in one of the following formats:
    • provide a direct download URL (hosted on Google Drive, Dropbox, website, OneDrive, etc.) or GitHub and similar version control links for downloads in the documentation.
    • provide a link to a webpage (HTML5/web games) in the documentation.
    • a promo code, key, or invitation (Steam, Humble, Itch.io, TestFlight, etc.) provided in the submission form. – must provide a minimum of 10 keys for our judges.
  • To compete for the short animated film category, entries must
    • Be submitted as a video with a recommended duration of at least 30 seconds and a maximum of 3 minutes
    • The accepted file formats are MP4(MPEG-4), AVI (Audio Video Interleave), MOV (QuickTime File Format), WMV(Windows Media Video), MKV (Matroska Multimedia Container)
    • Provide a direct download URL (hosted on Google Drive, Dropbox, website, OneDrive, etc.) or GitHub and similar version control links for downloads in the submission form.

Judging

  • GameXcellence Awards have a specific set of judging criteria for each award category for transparency.
  • GameXcellece appoints a judging panel to evaluate the submissions based on the judging criteria and the decision is final.
  • Judges shall have no pecuniary or other interest in a winner. If they do, they must disclose this interest and recuse themselves from discussions and votes involving the entrants.

 

Ownership and responsibility

The entrants retain full rights to their games, prototype games or animation videos. By submitting their works, the entrants acknowledge full responsibility for any claims made by third parties regarding the game or any other materials provided to GameXcellence Awards.

 

Existing Technologies, Content and Assets:

  • Entrants are allowed to submit a game, prototype games, or animated film that utilizes existing technologies, contents, materials and assets. The entrants must declare they own full rights or possess the necessary licenses to use them.
  • A clear reference for any existing content, technologies, or assets used in their submission must be included in the submission form.
